The Histotechnologist is responsible for the preparation and processing of tissue specimens, including embedding, microtomy, and staining, to support accurate dermatological diagnoses. They must also maintain laboratory logs, ensure quality control, and adhere to safety protocols while collaborating with clinical staff.
Candidates must hold an Associate degree in laboratory science or a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, along with HTL (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Applicants are required to have experience in fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining within the last 5 years.
The Histotechnologist will maintain logs, records, and documentation in accordance with governing agencies, as well as clinic and laboratory protocols. They will ensure accuracy and quality in all histological procedures by applying in-depth knowledge of histotechnology techniques, laboratory instruments, and tissue handling principles.
They will collaborate with Dermatologists and clinical staff to ensure proper specimen handling and optimal diagnosis outcomes. The Histotechnologist has the authority to assess specimen adequacy, request additional or repeat specimens if necessary, and troubleshoot technical issues in processing. May be required to perform special tasks including, but not limited to quality improvement initiatives, policy review and development, equipment validation, inventory management, participation in clinic committees, and other assigned duties.
