Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a licensed professional, provides for patient care activities which include bathing, feeding, positioning, ambulating, monitoring vital signs and maintains a clean environment. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Personal Job-related Skills: Ability to read and write in English, effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Fluency in other languages preferred. Licensure, Registry or Certification: · Texas Nursing Assistant certification / Medical Assistant preferred. · Current BLS or must be obtained within 3 months of hire.

  • Requirements: · Duties of position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. · Extended period of standing or walking. · Some bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, kneeling, and reaching is required. · Lifting and/or moving more than 50 pounds may be needed when working with patients or equipment. · Occasional heavy lifting may be needed when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless. · Visual acuity including close, distance, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. · The ability to hear and respond appropriately to alarms on equipment, patient call systems and instructions from physicians, staff, patients, and visitors. · Effective communication skills to convey clear concise instructions to staff, visitors, and patients. · The ability to comprehend and follow routine written and verbal instructions or directions. · Exposure to all patient elements including stressful emergency situations. · Moderate to loud noise levels. · Overcome your own beliefs to support the patient’s belief system. · The ability to hear alarms on equipment, patient call systems and instructions from physicians, staff, patients and visitors. · Exposure to all patient elements including stressful emergency situations.

Changes and/or additions may be made as needed. · Provide general nursing care to the patients in accordance to nursing standards and under the direction of the registered nurses in the department and within their scope of practice. · Participates in Performance and Process Improvement for the department. · Orders, stocks, and ensure supplies are current within the department. Notify Nursing staff of any changes noted in patient behavior. Collaborate and assist other staff members providing care as needed while maintaining a safe environment. Document care provided in accordance with hospital policies. Assist patient with routine ADL’s as needed. Identifies and Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Initiatives Facilitates admissions and transfers both intra-hospital and with outlying facilities within your scope of practice. Provides care appropriate for patients of all ages based on the principles of growth and development over the life span. Participate as needed in the orientation and training of other staff/students. · Assists with the nursing department functions. Maintains safety standards when utilizing supplies and equipment on the medical-surgical unit. Adhere to departmental policies for notification of missing or needed supplies. Remove all malfunctioning equipment from the patient care area, notify the charge nurse of specific details. Collaborate with housekeeping to identify and mitigate environmental safety hazards. Maintain competency utilizing emergency equipment safely. Facilitates favorable relationships between the medical-surgical unit. Medical Staff, and other hospital departments and seeks input regarding nursing care. Demonstrate behaviors that promote positive and effective relationships with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team. Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to resolve problems. Utilize behavioral standards to maintain open communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Incorporate the Patient ‘s rights into everyday clinical practice. Follows State and Federal Guidelines for Safety and Quality. · Complete annual OSHA required education. · Attends annual health and safety education as scheduled. · Demonstrate knowledge of location and correct use of fire extinguishers.
