The Clinical Documentation Specialist evaluates physician documentation to ensure accurate representation of patient severity and coding specificity. They also provide guidance to medical and nursing staff on documentation best practices to improve hospital outcomes.
Candidates must be a Registered Nurse with at least three years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required within five years of hire, and licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia is mandatory.
A minimum of three years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist is required. Clinical experience in multiple areas, particularly in the ICU, is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The starting base rate for this role is $73,444.80 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
