The Advanced Practice Provider coordinates orthopedic patient care by assisting surgeons in the operating room and managing post-operative care on nursing units. They also independently evaluate patients in outpatient clinics and provide education to patients, families, and staff.
Candidates must have completed an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program and hold a valid Minnesota license. Certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, along with BLS or ACLS certification, is required.

Ability to apply and remove casts and splints.
Must be able to work flexible hours.
Prefer 1-2 years’ experience in the orthopedic surgery and clinic environment which includes First Assisting and seeing patients independently.
STATEMENT: The Advanced Practice Provider in Orthopaedic Services is responsible for the coordination of care of orthopaedic patients. In the operating room and on the nursing units, the position will first assist the surgeon by preparing grafts, closing the incision and first and second assisting the surgeon as needed.
On the inpatient nursing unit, this position will coordinate the patients care and assist the surgeon in directing the post operative nursing care for these patients. The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks. Daily and rotating inpatient weekend rounding and/or call is expected in this position. Per Diem APP Ortho positions are required to work at least 1 weekend per quarter, or as determined by Ortho department.
1.Responsible for assisting the orthopaedic surgeons in the care of orthopaedic patients in the operating room, and post operatively on the nursing units30%
Coordinates the management of care with the Surgeon, Fellow, residents and nursing staff for orthopaedic patients.
Maintains knowledge of current pre & post-operative care.
Changes dressings, applies and removes casts, splints and braces.
Writes orders for medications and treatments as necessary to facilitate post-operative care.
Completes discharge order set and dictates discharge summaries in a timely manner to facilitate discharge.
Daily rounding on inpatients at Regions Hospital and/or affiliated sites with monthly weekend rounding and/or call responsibilities as assigned.
Obtains consults and collects pertinent patient information
Coordinates the admitting process
Maintains and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Documents in the EMR
Discusses and develops diagnosis and pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment plans with staff physician, on both inpatient and outpatient patients.
Educates patient and family on the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process including prescribed medications.

Work environment includes office, operating room and clinical nursing care units.
Stands 4-6 hours and walks 2-4 hours daily while performing duties. May view a computer screen for up to 3 hours a day. Lifts, pushes, pulls training equipment up to 50lbs. Must be able to transport self throughout the hospital. Must be able to perform tasks requiring fine motor and hand/eye coordination.
