About the role

The Physical Therapist will conduct patient evaluations and provide treatment services in an outpatient surgical center to assist with post-operative recovery. They are responsible for educating patients on injury prevention and ensuring they are ready for discharge.

Position Summary

OrthoVirginia is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist to support patient evaluation, education, and discharge in our Same Day Ambulatory Surgery Center for total joint procedures. In this outpatient surgical setting, the therapist provides 1:1 care to patients immediately recovering from surgery and preparing for same‑day discharge.

This role guarantees 20-25 hours per week, with hours varying based on daily surgical volume. No nights, weekends, or holidays are required.

  • Primary Functions & Accountabilities
  • Consults with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms
  • Diagnoses movement dysfunction and develops a treatment plan
  • Teaches patients how to properly use therapeutic exercise techniques
  • Educates patient and families on injury prevention and post-operative care
  • Assists patients with the use of equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers
  • Assesses patient individualized needs for accessing home environment
  • Maintains patient records and documents goals and progress
  • Schedules patients effectively for best time utilization
  • Interprets and organizes evaluation and assessment data
  • Utilizes knowledge of patient's diagnosis, signs, and symptoms presented and results of diagnostic studies to determine the patient's level of function
  • Sets priorities and establishes realistic short-term goals and long-term outcomes
  • Documents and maintains a plan of care for each patient which includes specific physical therapy orders in coordination with the medical plan of care
  • Communicates the plan of care in formal and informal communication
  • Appropriately utilizes the capabilities of personnel in assignment of self and team members

  • Position Requirements
  • BS, MS, or DPT in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
  • Current Physical Therapist license
  • Current CPR certification

Compensation Range for this position

$33.56 - $50.34

Compensation for this role will be based on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, certifications, geography/market, and internal equity considerations.

Candidates must hold a BS, MS, or DPT in Physical Therapy from an accredited school. A current Physical Therapist license and CPR certification are required.
