About the role

The Psychiatric Technician assists clinical staff in coordinating patient program activities and specialty groups while ensuring the daily schedule is followed. They perform direct patient care duties, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and maintaining a therapeutic environment.

Overview Assists in coordinating essential program activities such as activity groups and specialty groups.

Works closely with all other clinical staff ( Activity Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses) to conduct various process and specialty groups within the patient program.

Is integral in assuring that the patient program schedule is carried out as planned by the staff team.

Performs various duties assisting staff nurses in the psychiatric and physical treatment and care of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the hospital.

Interacts closely with patients remaining engaged in the various activities and events that patient’s experience throughout the treatment day.

Interacts with patients in a therapeutic manner at all times and assists other staff to also maintain appropriate boundaries.

Responsibilities

Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families and employees of DRMC. Demonstrate the ability to do Vital signs and document, assist with total patient care, assists with activities of daily living, able to use PPE properly, able to carry out infection control practices, and has the ability to use proper lifting techniques with proper body mechanics without causing injury to patient, self, or others. Communicates with the RN or LPN on all aspects of patient care. Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and DRMC. Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs. Qualifications

Education: High school graduate.

Experience

  • Desirable characteristics include at 2 years of experience in a hospital or group home setting. Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards under the supervision of an RN. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and are preferred to have at least two years of experience in a hospital or group home setting. Required certifications include CPR and CPI, along with the ability to perform physical tasks safely and effectively under supervision.
