Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams and invasive procedures with independent judgment while maintaining high-quality imaging standards. Provides direct patient care across various hospital units including emergency, trauma, and ICU settings.
Requires a specialized diploma or degree from an approved diagnostic medical sonography program and current ARDMS certification. Candidates must possess the ability to function independently and maintain professional relationships with medical staff and patients.
Specialized Diploma Graduate of approved CAHEA school of diagnostic medical sonography or certification program. In good standing with the ARDMS. Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, physicians, and nursing personnel. Ability to function independently and competently. Ability to maintain professional relationship with co-workers and medical staff. Knowledge of a wide variety of personnel such as patients, family, physicians, nurses, and students. Knowledge necessary to ensure that the assessment, treatment, and care are appropriate to the age of patients served ranging in age from neonates to geriatrics. Associate’s Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Bachelor’s Degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist ARDMS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
