Pediatric Dental Assistant

About the Role

• The Pediatric Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting pediatric dentists by providing exceptional care and comfort to young patients during dental procedures.
• This position involves preparing treatment rooms, assisting during dental treatments, performing coronal polishing and/or applying sealants, and ensuring all instruments and materials are sterilized and ready for use.
• The assistant will also be responsible for educating children and their parents on proper oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric needs.
• A key outcome of this role is to create a positive, reassuring environment that reduces anxiety and fosters a lifelong commitment to dental health.
• Ultimately, the Pediatric Dental Assistant contributes to the smooth operation of the dental practice while prioritizing the safety and well-being of every child.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited dental assistant training program.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Knowledge of dental terminology and pediatric dental procedures.
• Ability to pass a background check and comply with state dental assistant licensing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working specifically in a pediatric dental setting.
• Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent.
• Familiarity with dental practice management software.
• Strong communication skills tailored to interacting with children and their families.
• Radiograph Certification, Coronal Polishing and Sealant Certification, and Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize dental instruments, materials, and equipment prior to patient appointments.
• Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations and procedures by handing instruments and managing suction devices.
• Perform coronal polishing and/or apply sealants.
