About the role

The medical coder is responsible for assigning accurate procedure and diagnosis codes using specialized software while ensuring compliance with legal and insurance requirements. They also conduct audits, resolve denied claims, and collaborate with the business office to ensure timely billing.

  • Summary: The Medical Coder complies with all legal requirements regarding coding procedures and practices. Conducts audits and coding reviews to ensure all documentation is accurate and precise, assign and sequence all codes for services rendered and collaborate with the business office to ensure all bill are satisfied in a timely manner.

  • Duties: Utilize specialized medical classification software to assign procedure and diagnosis codes for insurance billing. Review claims data to ensure that assigned codes meet required legal and insurance rules and that required signatures and authorizations are in place prior to submission. Conduct medical records research and correspond with insurance companies and healthcare professionals to resolve issues resulting from denied claims. Adhere to coding policies and procedures consistent with the industry standard guidelines for CPT, ICD-9 and ICD-10. . Westborough Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (WBHH) provides psychiatric stabilization diagnosis treatments for Children, Special Needs, and Adult populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our goal is to ensure patients and their loved ones feel comfortable and are well informed regarding treatment options. We are conveniently located in Westborough near the intersection of Route 495 and Route 9. The hospital operates 24/7 with multiple shifts available.

  • Licensure: High School degree required. Associate's Degree or Certificate in Medical Coding/CPC required. Knowledge of medical terminology; basic and advanced ICD-9-CM coding; anatomy and physiology; computer data entry; and medical law, privacy and ethics. Knowledge of CMS rules and regulations and current coding resources Knowledge of Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding and healthcare reimbursement methods.

Experience

A minimum of 1 year coding experience required, preferably with psychiatric services. Understanding of Medical Terminology required. A minimum of 2-3 years experience working in a Medical office. At least 1 year experience working in a Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. The ability to work without supervision

Requirements
