The physicist provides comprehensive medical physics support for radiation oncology services, including treatment planning, equipment calibration, and quality assurance. They also serve as the Department Radiation Safety Officer and collaborate with clinical staff to ensure optimal patient care and regulatory compliance.
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Physics or a related field and possess ABR certification in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics. Additionally, a valid IEMA Licensed Radiologic Technologist certification in Radiation Therapy is required.
Carle Health is seeking a full-time, Radiation Oncology physicist to join our team in Peoria, Illinois.
Provides comprehensive medical physics support for radiation oncology services, including external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, SRS, and SBRT Supports a highly collaborative, physician-partnered practice environment Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including IEMA, NRC, ACR, and DNV Oversees equipment acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and ongoing quality assurance Develops, implements, and maintains departmental physics policies, procedures, and QA programs Serves as Department Radiation Safety Officer Provides leadership in radiation safety, shielding requirements, and radioactive material inventory management Collaborates with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists to ensure optimal treatment planning and delivery Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives, radiation safety meetings, and strategic planning Assists with education, orientation, and technical instruction for staff and students Opportunities to support innovation, clinical projects, and program development within radiation oncology Sign-on bonus available Relocation assistance available for candidates with 1+ year of experience and residing more than 50 miles away Partial remote work may be considered for candidates within driving distance of Peoria Education/Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Physics or a related field Certified Specialist in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics (ABR) – required Licensed Radiologic Technologist – Radiation Therapy (IEMA) – required Experience in medical physics or a related clinical setting preferred
