About the role

The intensivist provides comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients in the ICU and manages complex treatment plans including mechanical support and critical care consultations. They also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in clinical research, and act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Inova is looking for intensivists to join our collaborative, high performing team of over 30 physicians and advanced practice providers, who care for the most acutely ill patients in our 919-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center flagship hospital at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC).

Our need for intensivists has grown as the acuity and volume of patients in our adult ICU’s has increased.

We are especially looking for intensivists with expertise in cardiac critical care and neurocritical care.

Providers care for the critically ill patients in the four adult ICU’s at IFMC- Medical-Surgical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, and Neuroscience ICU.

We also provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support to the Inova system of hospitals.

Post-ICU care is supported by a team of hospitalists, including a subspecialty hospitalist service for neurologic diseases and injuries.

Job Responsibilities Provides medical care to critically ill patients who have been admitted to the hospital.

Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive coordinated care.

Manages patient care plans and make recommendations for treatment.

Initiates, monitors, and adjusts treatment plans.

Participates in wide-range of clinical research projects, studies and multidisciplinary team activities.

Keeps accurate medical records and documents patient care.

Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

Stays current with the latest medical treatments and procedures.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Completes initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provides ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions while providing treatment.

Orders prescription medications and diagnostic procedures while authorizing and coordinating all specialty and ancillary services.

Provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support managing patients requiring vasopressos, mechanical support, post operative neurosurgical patients, stroke patient and cardiogenic shock with the support of team APP’s Featured Benefits: Committed to Team Member Health: offering medical, dental and vision coverage, and a robust team member wellness program.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution. Board eligible or board certified in Critical Care.

Experience

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree, be board certified or eligible in Critical Care, and possess an unrestricted medical license in Virginia. A minimum of 3 years of experience as an attending physician at a large tertiary care hospital is preferred.
