The Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining aseptic technique and managing the sterile field during surgical and endoscopy procedures. They also ensure all equipment and supplies are prepared, patient data is documented, and safety protocols like 'time-outs' are strictly followed.
This Temporary position will be in Bayonne University Hospital.
This will be contracted for 13 weeks and will be reviewed on a weekly basis dependent on need.
You will not be considered if you do not have OR experience.
Directly accountable for preventing hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff Demonstrates ability to adapt to varied age specific patient populations to include adolescent, adult and geriatrics.
Ensures all supplies and equipment are available for each case.
Reviews pertinent chart data and assesses patient perioperatively and documents appropriately.
Assists in the formulation and delivery of teaching to the patient and family in a manner that is easily understood Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Card/Case Cart Requisition.
Assists in the positioning, skin preparation and draping of the patient according policy and procedure.
Follows department and hospital protocols on the handling and documentation of surgical specimens.
Follows hospital protocols regarding surgical counts and the documentation of same.
Collects, interprets and communicates data that is relevant to the patient's care.
Cleans and maintains equipment at the end of each case.
Maintains accepted standards of aseptic technique and manages sterile field utilizing proper infection control practices when both scrubbed and circulating.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
Works in Endoscopy procedures as assigned.
Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that could arise intra-operatively or in the immediate postoperative period.
Able to troubleshoot when there is a problem with equipment of special instrumentation.
Provides complete endorsement of patient to PACU nurse Collaborates with Materials Management and assists with inventory control and checks expiration dates.
Follows policy and procedure for handling and discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
Conducts "time-out" Universal Protocol appropriately.
Prepares supplies for next days' assignment on case carts.
Assoc . Degree or Diploma Nursing School
BSN degree encouraged At least 2 years experience in the Operating Room
Current NJ Nursing License BLS, ACLS, PALS - AHA approved
CNOR preferred;
3 - 12 hour shifts 4 -10 Hour Shifts 5 - 8 hour shifts
80 hours On Call required
