About the role

The Float Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care across the ICU, ED, and Medical Surgical units. They must monitor patient conditions, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide critical care to seriously ill or injured patients in our 3-bed ICU within a critical access hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a close-knit environment where your clinical judgment, adaptability, and teamwork make a meaningful impact every day. As an ICU nurse, you will care for a variety of patient populations, including post-surgical and medical patients, while also supporting care across our mixed-acuity inpatient unit. This position is ideal for a nurse who values autonomy, collaboration, and the ability to care for patients across the continuum.

Job summary

Assists in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, incorporating principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Assesses patient data, identifies care needs, and delivers care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate patient status, identifying both subtle and acute changes in condition
  • Provide continuous, high-quality care throughout the patient’s ICU stay and recovery
  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies and collaborate closely with physicians and care teams
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans using multidisciplinary resources
  • Prioritize care for patients with complex and evolving conditions
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families
  • Serve as an educator for patients, families, and peers
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and ensure completion
  • Apply critical thinking to determine appropriate interventions and timing of care
  • Administer medications safely and evaluate patient response
  • Maintain compliance with clinical standards, policies, and continuing education requirements
  • Participate in professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and team collaboration
  • Contribute ideas to improve patient care and support research/data collection efforts
