The therapist will diagnose and treat substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders while providing trauma-informed care through various therapeutic modalities. They are also responsible for maintaining clinical documentation, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and providing crisis intervention and family support.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field and possess a current, unrestricted associate or clinical license in California. Previous experience working with diverse populations and patients with PTSD or complex trauma is preferred.
Diagnose and Treat SUD and co-occurring Mental Health Disorders: Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client needs and diagnoses. Provide ongoing therapy to clients with a focus on substance use, trauma, and mental health concerns. Trauma-Informed Care: Address and treat trauma through evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Utilize trauma-informed care practices to ensure a safe, supportive therapeutic environment. Facilitate Therapeutic Interventions: Use various therapeutic modalities (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, DBT) to address substance use and mental health challenges. Provide individual, group and family therapy for patients. Teach clients communication skills, coping strategies, and tools for managing stress and emotions. Crisis Management: Provide crisis intervention and support when clients experience acute emotional or psychological distress. Assess client safety and mental health status, ensuring immediate needs are met and creating action plans. Behavioral Support and Skill-Building: Assist clients in identifying and addressing maladaptive behaviors that hinder progress in treatment. Support clients in building resilience and coping strategies to navigate challenges and prevent relapse. Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Work closely with other clinical staff, including case managers, psychiatrists, and counselors, to provide integrated care. Participate in regular team meetings, case discussions, and treatment planning. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress, treatment plans, and session notes. Complete all necessary clinical documentation and reports in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Support Clients’ Families: Provide family therapy or support sessions for families of clients, particularly in cases involving adolescents or young adults. Educate family members about substance use, mental health, and trauma to help create a strong support system. Field-Based Opportunities (if applicable): Provide services in the field, working with clients in their home or community setting. Engage with adolescents, families, or adults in a variety of locations based on the needs of the program. Cultural Competence: Provide culturally sensitive care and recognize the unique needs of diverse populations. Promote an inclusive and non-judgmental environment for clients from various backgrounds. Community and Client Advocacy: Advocate for clients’ access to appropriate services and resources, including community support, housing, and employment. Empower clients to make informed decisions regarding their recovery journey.
Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, or similar field. Current and unrestricted associate registration OR license in marriage and family therapy (MFT), clinical social work license (CSW), professional counseling (PCC) or clinical psychology (PsyD) in CALIFORNIA Previous experience as a mental health therapist, working with diverse populations. Experience working with patients with PTSD and complex trauma preferred.
