Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy or polysomnography technology education program. The role requires the ability to work under supervision to gain practical experience in a clinical environment.

Summary The Respiratory Therapist Student participates in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation. This role assists students in finding an area of respiratory therapy practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests. The student will be under supervision by an licensed professional in his/her specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets.
The RT student would perform routine duties while being supervised by their preceptor. These duties would include, but not limited to: Nebulizer and MDI treatments, Drawing arterial blood gases, Setting patients up on invasive and noninvasive ventilation (Ventilators/CPAP/BiPAP), Incentive Spirometer instructs, Chest physiotherapy (via Metaneb, Aerobika, vest machine or manual CPT), Suctioning tracheostomy patients and those on ventilators, Assisting with intubation, CPR, Listening to breath sounds, Assisting in developing the patient respiratory treatment plan, Trach cares, Cleaning and setting up of RT equipment. Qualifications Must be a student enrolled in a respiratory therapy or polysomnography technology education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, its successor organization, or another nationally recognized accrediting organization.
