The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Performs gross sections of human tissue for examination.
Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section, and stain specimens.
Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains, as requested. Manual staining may be required.
Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives, and safety standards and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures.
Participates in the training of other technologists, technicians, and/or residents. Guides and develops professional content for learning experiences.
Examines slides under a microscope to ensure that slides meet laboratory quality standards. Identifies issues and troubleshoots for resolution.
Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to preventative, routine, and troubleshooting.
Assists in writing and updating procedures as needed. Assumes the additional responsibilities of supervision and assessing competency as qualified/applicable.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Histology, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology, along with at least one year of relevant clinical laboratory experience. A valid NYSED Histotechnologist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is required upon hire.
