The Peer Specialist provides intensive support to individuals managing mental health recovery through social, recreational, and skill-teaching interventions. They facilitate mutual support meetings and establish community linkages to assist individuals in their transition to independent living.
High School Diploma or GED required. Motor vehicle Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy. If using personal vehicle must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage. Must attain Certification upon hire and maintain certification. Must demonstrate lived experience with Mental illness and be a role model to others pursuing recovery KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff. Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental health challenges. Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with mental health challenges. Have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama State public mental health system, Have demonstrated knowledge of advocacy, self-help and empowerment programs for people who are receiving mental health services Have the ability to complete basic documentation requirements regarding work activities Qualifications
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate lived experience with mental illness. A valid Alabama driver's license and the ability to obtain professional certification upon hire are required.
