The Wound Care registered nurse acts as an expert resource to prevent and manage complex wounds across all hospital floors. This role involves assessing patients, performing procedures like debridement, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to optimize healing outcomes.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and have at least 2 years of clinical wound care experience. A current Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Certification is highly recommended.
The Wound Care registered nurse acts as a resource, role model, and expert to prevent and manage skin breakdown and complex wounds in patients across all hospital floors. By ensuring that evidence-based care is provided to promote optimal healing, this role includes, but is not limited to conducting wound rounds on all floors, providing specialized care, support, and education to patients and staff. The Wound Care registered nurse formulates policies and educational resources relative to wounds and appropriate strategies through collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. Assess and evaluate patient wounds to determine the appropriate course of treatment Clean and dress wounds, ensuring sterile techniques are followed Monitor and document patient progress, updating treatment plans as necessary Educate patients and their families on wound care best practices and infection prevention Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians and other health-care professionals, to optimize patient care Perform debridement and other wound care procedures as required Stay updated with the latest wound care research, techniques, and products Manage wound care supplies and ensure their availability Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families Conduct regular follow-up appointments to monitor healing and make necessary adjustments to care plans Conduct wound rounds across all hospital floors, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to review patient cases and adjust care plans as needed. Participates and/or chairs in various committees and studies and functions as a resource person to staff in matters regarding pressure ulcer/ wound/ostomy management. Responsible for patient safety by monitoring and reporting sentinel events, participates in RCAs. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to develop and implement policies and procedures to manage patients with draining wounds, fistulae and/or tubes, wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence. Follows the standards of the Organization of Wound Care Nurses (OWCN). Performs related duties as required. Operates all equipment correctly and safely. This position will work at the Andrus and Dobbs Ferry Pavilion.
Strong knowledge of wound care treatments, protocols, and best practice Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Detail- oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills. Knowledge of health-care data standards and regulations (e.g., HIPAA). Minimum of 2 years of wound care experience in a clinical setting.Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required o Current Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Certification (CWOCN) highly recommended, plus specialized certifications as needed. Master's degree in a related field preferred
