We are seeking an experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our team as a 1099 independent contractor. This role is ideal for clinicians who value flexibility, autonomy, and strong earning potential while being part of a mission-driven organization.

YOUR IMPACT In this role, you will deliver high-quality psychiatric care while maintaining full control over your schedule and workload. You’ll help clients experience stability, clarity, and hope through compassionate, clinically excellent care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and establish accurate diagnoses Develop and manage individualized treatment plans Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications in compliance with regulations Provide brief psychotherapy and patient education when appropriate Order and interpret labs and diagnostic tests as needed Collaborate with therapists and other providers to support coordinated care Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation Participate in team meetings as desired Provide care for children, adolescent and adult populations

WHAT YOU BRING Strong clinical knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacology Ability to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of mental health conditions Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage a caseload in a fast-paced outpatient setting Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Comfort working with diverse populations Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia Prescriptive authority with active DEA registration Experience in outpatient psychiatric care Ability to work with adolescent and adult populations Ability to pass required background checks

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of PMHNP experience Experience with telehealth and integrated care models Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team Interest in working in a faith-based environment

Independent contractor details

Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position designed for clinicians who want maximum flexibility and income potential. You control your schedule, workload, and availability. Light Counseling provides the infrastructure and referral flow so you can focus on patient care.

Providers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and independence while operating within company policies and clinical standards.

Requirements

Requires a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with PMHNP-BC board certification and an active Virginia license. Must have prescriptive authority, DEA registration, and experience in outpatient psychiatric care.
