The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples via venipuncture and fingerstick and performing HIV rapid testing for research participants. Additionally, the role involves data entry, specimen shipping to labs, and providing general administrative support for the research project.
A high school diploma and one year of related experience are required for this position. A bachelor's degree and proficiency in Spanish are preferred.
The department of Health, Behavior and Society (HBS) is seeking a Phlebotomist. HBS is dedicated to research, education, and practice on public health issues rooted in human behavior and social conditions from smoking and substance use to diabetes and HIV and more.
The Phlebotomist supports the conduct of a research project. Collects and organizes data through study-specific procedures that may include community outreach, data collection, sample collection, laboratory work, and/or field work. Provides general administrative support for meetings/events, communications, reporting, etc.
This position is responsible for drawing blood from study participants who consented for HIV testing, data collection, and data entry of testing data.
Assist in developing operational plans to meet research goals. Set up tools and procedures for data collection and study processes. Collect and organize data per study requirements, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires; conduct background research, laboratory processing, etc. Process data by organizing data records and study files. Run basic analyses and prepare routine reports. Perform literature searches, abstract data from literature searches and index gathered data. Other duties as assigned.
Non-Standard Work Hours Requirement This position requires evening and variable hours based on fieldwork needs. Data collection is conducted in both the study office and field locations using a mobile project van. Typical field hours are 5:00 PM – 1:00 AM, with in-office hours from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The standard workweek is Monday through Saturday, with occasional Sunday shifts as needed.
High school diploma or graduation equivalent. One year of related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Spanish-speaking. Flexibility with work hours.
