About the role

The role involves conducting comprehensive patient assessments and developing individualized treatment plans in a clinical setting. Additionally, the candidate will provide first-assist support during orthopedic surgeries and manage postoperative care.

Description At Excel Orthopaedic Specialists, we’ve built a reputation for excellence by combining advanced orthopedic care with the personal attention of a private practice. We’re looking for an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner who thrives in both the clinic and the operating room, and who wants to grow with a team that values skill, compassion, and collaboration.

This is not a cookie-cutter role — it’s an opportunity to be an integral partner with our orthopedic surgeons, providing care that makes a real impact in our patients’ lives.

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history, physical exams, and diagnostic testing interpretation. Collaborate with the orthopedic team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Educate patients on their condition, treatment plans, and postoperative care. Assist with in-office procedures, including joint injections, casting, and splinting. Manage follow-up appointments, monitor patient progress, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Surgical
  • Assistance: Assist in the operating room under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons. Prepare patients for surgery and ensure all surgical equipment is ready and sterile. Perform preoperative and postoperative care, including wound care, dressing changes, and monitoring for complications. Provide first-assist support during various orthopedic surgeries, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Community

May attend community sporting events, talks or events Performs other duties as assigned by the Attending Physician or Practice Administrator.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current PA license in Massachusetts. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Prior experience in orthopedics or surgical assistance is highly desirable. BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.

Skills

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient education and team collaboration. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing office duties with surgical assistance. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management software.
