About the role

Obtain blood samples from patients using venipuncture or skin puncture while adhering to identification policies. Process and receive specimens into the laboratory computer system in the Central Processing area.

To obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture observing proper phlebotomy technique and patient identification policies. Exhibiting a caring and courteous manner to all patients and guests is required. Responding immediately to STAT requests and drawing other specimens in a timely manner. Processing and receiving specimens into the laboratory computer system in the Central Processing area of the lab.

Responsibilities

  • To obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture observing proper phlebotomy technique and patient identification policies.
  • Responding immediately to STAT requests and drawing other specimens in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma is required. College or technical school courses are preferred.

Experience

Previous phlebotomy experience preferred(2 years). Computer familiarity and keyboard skills are required. A friendly caring personality is necessary for public relations.

Licensure

Certification is phlebotomy is a plus but not required.

Special skills

The phlebotomy activity requires manual dexterity with an excellent fine motor skills. Working with patients directly, a great deal of emphases is placed on patient interpersonal skills.

Physical demand

Phlebotomy may require extended periods of standing bent over patients, walking throughout the hospital carrying a basket and using the stairs. Computer work in an average laboratory setting. May be required to enter isolation rooms using proper isolation technique including proper mask fitting.

A high school diploma is required, and previous phlebotomy experience of up to 2 years is preferred. Certification in phlebotomy is considered a plus but is not mandatory.
