The specialist is responsible for the assessment and placement of PICC and midline catheters while serving as a consultant for vascular access devices. They also provide education to nursing staff and monitor quality outcomes related to infection control.
Requires a current Florida RN license, BLS, and ACLS certifications, with a preference for PICC certification and a BSN. Candidates should have 1 to 2 years of PICC experience and excellent peripheral IV skills.
Summary: Position Responsibilities Reviews daily admission report for patients admitted with key diagnoses. Meets with the ICP on a daily basis (M-F) for a morning report concerning the previous day's work flow and patient assessments of vascular requirements. Collaborates with the medical and nursing staff using effective communication skills to serve as a resource and consultant on the use and placement of all vascular access devices. Responsible for medical record documentation, vascular assessment, placement of PICC /midline catheters and supply chain charging. Responsible for the hospital-wide administration of CathFlo when ordered by a physician. Provide education and mentoring of nursing staff regarding IV accesses and therapies; assist with the writing, review and maintenance of Infection Control IV policies. Assist with continuous quality monitoring by collecting data, performing outcome analysis and assisting Infection Control on performance improvements as needed. Responsible to assist nursing when placement of peripheral IVs and dressing changes are difficult. Demonstrates knowledge and practice on the use of ultrasound for vascular placement. Demonstrates understanding of principles of infection control / CLABSI infection prevention strategies. Demonstrates ability to be flexible, maintain composure and focus in stressful situations. Demonstrates ability to manage time effectively, set priorities, and seek direction from appropriate resources when necessary. Maintains current professional standards by on-going self- education methods and attending periodic professional conferences. Complete a formal PICC education within (1) year of hire if not previously completed within the last (3) years. Abilityy to have a flexible work schedule with rotating (1) weekend day. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification Current RN license in the State of Florida. BLS and ACLS required. PICC certified preferred Education Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. Experience 1 to 2 years of PICC experience. Excellent peripheral IV skills required.
