General Summary

Respiratory Therapist are health care professionals who administer respiratory care by prescription of the physician. Their responsibilities include the diagnostic evaluation (not limited to: Obtaining and analyzing physiological specimens, interpreting physiologic data, performing tests and studies of the cardiopulmonary system and performing neuropsychological studies), management, education and rehabilitation and care of the patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. The practice includes the application of technology and the use of treatment protocols across all care sites including but is not limited to application and monitoring of: Medical gases (excluding anesthetic gases) and environmental control systems, Mechanical ventilatory support, Artificial airway care, Bronchopulmonary hygiene, Pharmacological agents related to respiratory care procedures, Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, Hemodynamic cardiovascular support.

• Primary Responsibilities Manages an assigned case load and responds to emergent patient needs.
• Functions as part of a larger team to support all patients under the department’s care. · Performs a variety of respiratory care treatments to specific patient populations, i.e., adult, pediatric, or neonatal.
• Verifies all interventions are supported by protocol or LIP order.
• Observes and monitors physical signs and symptoms, general behavior, general physical response to respiratory care procedures.
