BENEFITS Bi-weekly pay Vacation, sick, and personal time Four medical plans to choose from, eligible first day of hire Dental Vision Aflac Disability and life insurance provided by the Agency, optional buy-ups 401a Money Purchase Pension Plan, 401a Defined Contribution, and 457 Deferred Compensation retirement plans YMCA corporate discount DESCRIPTION The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will act as a support and resource for adults who are in the correctional setting and preparing for exit (or recently exited) the criminal justice system related to substance abuse and behavioral health treatment services. The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will act as a key member of the treatment team by working with consumers one-on-one to support them in achieving goals and connecting consumers to community resources. The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will support consumer skills in order to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. The peer will work with both women and men incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail. This position works in tandem with the SUD Jail Diversion clinician assigned to the treatment team. This position reports to the Jail Diversion SUD Clinical Services Supervisor/Coordinator. Build and foster relationships with the consumer, community partners and other key supports. Actively engage as part of the treatment team to meet consumer needs, complete all required documentation and paperwork. Prepare the consumer to fully participate in their own meetings and treatment processes. Teach self-advocacy, problem-solving and independent living skills. Provide support during “rough” or “crisis” times. Empower the consumer to build understanding in others about their unique mental health needs. In collaboration with the consumer, work with other internal and external partners (i.e., schools, faith community, other human services organizations) to develop natural supports to eliminate barriers to services, enhance existing community services or develop new services based on the needs of the consumer. Provide consultation and education to consumer and use problem-solving techniques with the objective of assisting consumer in improving or maintaining functioning. Serve as a role model and active participant in supporting consumer in meeting their treatment plan goals. Conducts consumer check-ins as necessary and appropriate. Assists in facilitating community referrals to resources identified by the treatment team, consumer and family. Provide transportation for consumer to resources, treatment and other key activities for successful community re-entry Attends staff, team and department meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned Maintain working knowledge of trends in the mental health field through participation in recovery based trainings, conferences, reading and committee/meetings both on a local, affiliate, state or national level. Follow oral and written direction completing tasks as assigned by due dates. Maintain working knowledge of software applications used in performance of daily duties.

  • Responsibilities: Complies with and maintains competence with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and rules governed under Medicare, Medicaid, the Michigan Department of Health and Human (MDHHS), Joint Commission, and any applicable funding sources. Understands, adheres and maintains competence with all MCMHA and CMHPSM standards, policies, procedures as they appear in MCMHA’s, Management of Information, Finance-Contract Management, Recipient Rights, Performance Improvement, Administration, Human Resources, Environment and Provision of Care Policies. Complies with and maintains competence with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations as they pertain to privacy and confidentiality. Interacts appropriately with Managers and peers. Performs required duties with an awareness of impact upon the Authority structure as a whole. Works as a Team Player within the entire Authority Structure.

  • Credentials: Have a High School diploma or GED. Completion of or have the ability to complete the state approved training for Certified Peer Support Specialists. A self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now using these services. Demonstrate an understanding of the “Intercept” model. Within the last three years, have 12 months (not necessarily consecutive) full or part-time paid or volunteer work experience: one year of college or other educational experience (within the last three years) can be substituted for work experience. A commitment to recovery, choice, empowerment, and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community. Ability to establish a trusting relationship with peers, including excellent interpersonal skills. Detail oriented with good writing and organizational abilities. Ability to network within the community and work with diverse populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation. Satisfy required State Police clearances. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, judiciary, court administration, and community agencies

  • The following physical and mental abilities are required: frequent lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds, must be able to hear, frequent sitting/standing/walking, ability to communicated effectively in person and/or phone, the ability to read, analyze and interpret information, ability to write correspondence and procedures, ability to maintain records, ability to remain impartial during investigative procedures, ability to solve practical problems, ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, ability to influence others. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and such other applications if/when required. Ability to be trained and successfully complete other computer training as required. MCMHA is a drug-free workplace.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED and lived experience as a current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services. Must have 12 months of relevant work or educational experience and the ability to obtain Certified Peer Support Specialist training.
