The MRI Technologist is responsible for operating MRI equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images and assisting physicians with invasive and non-invasive procedures. They must ensure patient safety, maintain accurate documentation in Cerner, and provide patient education throughout the examination process.
Candidates should ideally hold an Associate of Arts degree in MRI technology and possess ARRT or ARMPIT certification. A Venipuncture certificate for California and BLS certification are also required or preferred.
Under the supervision of the Radiology Director/Manager and/or Lead Technologist, the MRI Technologist will perform all MRI duties, as well as other related responsibilities as needed to facilitate workflow and promote healthcare. MRI Technologists will operate MRI equipment in a safe and competent manner to produce quality diagnostic images as directed by physicians, according to established standards and protocols.
1. Assists physicians in invasive and non-invasive procedures using proper sterile technique as directed.
2. Perform MRI procedure as instructed.
3. Obtains and reviews documentation before performing exam. i.e. Physician’s orders, consent and other forms, historical and contrast media questionnaire.
4. QC’s all exams in Cerner as the exam is completed to ensure accurate historical reporting data.
5. Responsible for the thorough knowledge of MRI policies, procedures, equipment and supplies as well as the operation of PACS, RIS, and HIS programs.
6. Takes an active part in patient education by explaining the examination process.
7. Promotes positive patient relations in a caring environment by making patients comfortable and at ease during procedures.
8. Transfers and positions patients using extreme care, patience, and proper body mechanics.
9. Identifies patients using the hospitals double identification policy.
10. Responds to back-up calls as needed within 30 minutes.
1. Preferred - Associate of Arts degree in vocational MRI technology or a formal AMA approved educational program with certification. ARRT( MR ) Venipuncture certificate (California)
