The nurse will provide patient assessment, triage, and care coordination for individuals with acute and chronic infectious diseases. Responsibilities include educating patients on antimicrobial therapies and documenting care plans within the electronic health record.
Candidates must hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa and a BLS certification. An Associate Degree in Nursing is required, while a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Infectious Disease Specialty Clinic at Methodist Hospital. In this role, you will support patients with complex acute and chronic infections, coordinate care, and serve as a key clinical resource for patients and families. You will collaborate closely with infectious disease physicians and an interdisciplinary healthcare team in a supportive, team-based environment. Patient Assessment & Triage Evaluate incoming patient phone calls to assess symptoms, exposure risks, treatment side effects, and urgency of care needs. Provide telephone triage and guide patients to the appropriate level of care or follow-up. Care Coordination Assist in coordinating care for patients with acute and chronic infectious conditions (e.g., bacteremia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, complex wound infections). Coordinate outpatient antimicrobial therapy (including IV antibiotics), lab monitoring, imaging, and follow-up appointments. Communicate efficiently with infectious disease providers, pharmacists, infusion services, and other care team members to ensure timely and effective treatment. Patient & Family Education Educate patients and caregivers on infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapies, infection prevention, and home care strategies. Provide education on medication adherence, infusion care, side effect monitoring, and signs/symptoms requiring urgent evaluation. Offer ongoing support and resources tailored to individual patient needs. Clinical Documentation & Follow-Up Accurately document patient assessments, care coordination activities, education, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR). Track patient progress, laboratory results, and treatment outcomes to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa - in good standing Experience: All levels of nursing experience will be considered. Prior experience in infectious disease or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
