Must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited program. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa.
This is an independent contractor position with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking Veterinarians to provide relief services at one of our two ARL Afford-a-Care Pet Clinics serving Des Moines and the surrounding area. This 1099 contractor role is ideal for veterinarians who enjoy meaningful clinical work, value flexibility, and want to contribute to expanding access to affordable veterinary care.
We're looking for veterinarians who are dependable, collaborative, and compassionate, with a genuine interest in community-focused care. Whether you’re an experienced relief veterinarian, balancing multiple roles, or a newer graduate looking to gain confidence in a supportive environment, you’ll be working alongside an experienced team. You’ll practice in clinics that are privately owned and operated by the ARL, where patient care not productivity metrics or commission-based goals drive decision-making. Relief veterinarians play a key role in delivering essential services to pets whose families might otherwise struggle to access care, making this work both professionally rewarding and impactful.
This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor role and offers flexible scheduling with opportunities available Tuesday through Saturday, depending on clinic needs and your availability. Compensation is market-driven with flexible hourly. Cases generally include wellness care, illness and injury evaluations, and surgical.
