• Perioperative Registered Nurses/Circulators are clinically competent, registered, professional nurses who have demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field.
• They effectively deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
• Supervised by the Surgical Services Unit Charge Nurses and the Director of Surgical Services Functions and Responsibilities: Adherence to hospital/department policy >Maintains good attendance record. >Arrives to work punctually >Follows dress code >Observes confidentiality >Adheres to safety policies >Participates in continuing education >Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures >Complies with surgery department policy and procedures >Complies with call and staffing assignments Patient Care >Uses the nursing process to plan and provide comprehensive safe patient care >Assesses the patient >Plans patient care >Documents patient care. >Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning care >Educates and Instructs patient and family >Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care >Participates in performance improvement activities.
• Clinical Duties >Administers medications, blood and blood products according to policy and procedure in collaboration with anesthesia >Administers treatments, ensuring proper positioning, prepping, and safety of patient before, during, and after procedure. >Ensures sterile technique is mantained at all times, communicating with team and surgeons for patient safety. >Performs patient care, scrub or circulating duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a current license as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama Must have current BCLS certification Recommended ACLS and PALS certification
