The Surgical Tech Student provides direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision, focusing on surgical field preparation and sterility maintenance. Responsibilities include obtaining supplies, processing instruments, and assisting the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Candidates must be enrolled in a Surgical Tech program and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Required certifications include BLS and a commitment to obtain national surgical technologist certification within 18 months of program completion.
A surgical technologist student employed by Erlanger Medical Center responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The surgical technologist student functions as a member of the surgical team responsible for the obtaining of surgical supplies, preparation of the surgical field and maintenance of procedure sterility. The SORT works in collaboration with the medical, anesthesia, managerial, nursing and clinical staff in order to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in BEH Surgery.
Required: High School education or equivalent.
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required:
Must maintain certification as a surgical technologist from a national certifying body recognized by the health facilities commission; or obtains such certification no later than eighteen (18) months after completion of a surgical technology program. Or, have documented evidence of surgical technology training through the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service in lieu of certification; or qualify as recognized by the State of TN.
BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and to be maintained going forward.
A surgical technologist student in the surgical educational program employed by Erlanger Medical Center responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and is responsible for the following:
Assumes on-call and late duty as assigned OR case preparation Instrument processing Surgical scrub Specimens
Family Nurse Practitioner
Certified Residential Medication Aide/Personal Support Specialist (CRMA/PSS)
Domestic and Sexual Violence Counselor
State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
Wellness LPN or LVN Nurse
Research Associate
