Performs routine and complex histology procedures including processing, embedding, and staining to provide accurate tissue slides for diagnosis. Ensures all testing adheres to laboratory standard operating procedures and maintains high productivity standards.
Requires a Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology program. ASCP certification as a Histology Technologist (HTL) is mandatory.
Summary Performs a wide range of routine and complex procedures in a timely and accurate manner. Uses various chemicals and equipment for processing, embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry, and special stains. Routine and complex testing is performed according to laboratory standard operating procedures to ensure that the pathologist has adequate tissue slides for diagnosis.
Essential Responsibilities Performs a wide range of routine and complex procedures in a timely and accurate manner. Uses various chemicals and equipment for processing, embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry, and special stains. Ensures all testing follows laboratory standard operating procedures so the pathologist receives accurate and complete slides for diagnosis.
Communicates effectively and appropriately using clear and credible language. Demonstrates sound judgment in determining what to communicate, to whom, and the best method for communication. Listens actively and allows others to fully express their points.
Demonstrates strong job knowledge and technical competency in daily work. Applies skills and standards consistently in routine and complex situations. Maintains accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks performed.
Prioritizes tasks and manages time effectively to meet deadlines. Manages interruptions appropriately and focuses on completing high priority work. Plans workload to ensure adherence to timelines and adjusts timelines when needed with stakeholder agreement. Meets or exceeds established productivity standards and consistently delivers expected results.
Education/Training Bachelor's degree required.
Experience Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology program.
Licensure and Certification ASCP certification as a Histology Technologist HTL required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support daily histology lab operations. Demonstrates critical thinking and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage resources effectively to ensure efficient and accurate results within the histology department.
