Practice for this role

About the role

The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive orthopaedic care, including first assisting in surgery and managing patient care in the office. Responsibilities also include performing ultrasound-guided injections, casting, splinting, and conducting hospital rounds and consults.

Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, a well-respected and busy orthopaedic practice, is looking for a full-time Orthopaedic Physician Assistant to work alongside of the current 15 PAs -14 Ortho PAs (including a "Coverage PA" to help cover vacations and provide additional help in the OR) plus 1 Hospital PA dedicated to hospital rounds/medical records.

Our Practice offers growth opportunities; we recently added another Orthopaedic Surgeon to our group and continue to expand our orthopaedic urgent care services.

The PA positions offer the opportunity to connect with people on a one-on-one basis, as well as work with physicians in various orthopaedic subspecialties.

Call is currently 1 in 16.

Physicians take first call for ER/Hospitals and the PAs take first call for patient calls/messages.

Weekend and holiday call is paid and consists of rounds and assisting with any add-on cases.

Weekday evening call is minimal and usually entails answering patient messages.

PAs with extensive orthopaedic experience are invited to staff our Ortho Urgent Care hours, which are also paid separately.

Orthopaedic Surgical PA responsibilities include, but are not limited to first assist at surgery, H&Ps and assist in the office with the full spectrum of patient care, including ultrasound-guided injections, casting/splinting, postoperative management, follow-up care, patient messages, EMR documentation, and injection clinics.

They also assist with hospital rounding and orthopaedic consults.

The opportunity to staff Tri-State Ortho Urgent Care hours is optional but encouraged and pays separately.

A minimum of two years of PA experience is preferred.

Surgical experience and orthopaedic knowledge is required.

Prior orthopaedic experience is strongly preferred.

Candidates must be organized, detailed-oriented, caring and passionate about patient care, and possess good bedside manner and excellent interpersonal skills.

EMR experience is also required.

Tri-State has four office locations in the Pittsburgh area, including McCandless, Seven Fields, Robinson Township and Fox Chapel.

As an independent practice, we are able to care for patients with all insurance types.

We are on staff at UPMC Passavant, UPMC St.

Margaret's, and AHN Wexford hospitals, as well as the outpatient surgery centers at UPMC Harmar, AHN Wexford, and Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Surgical Suites.

Travel to all offices/hospitals is required.

Market context

Pennsylvania physician roles remain selective

Physician openings in Pennsylvania are often driven by ongoing clinical coverage needs and specialty demand, so competition can be strongest for roles that require board eligibility, Pennsylvania licensure or IMLC eligibility, and preferred fellowship or EPIC experience. Benefits and requirements on this platform are AI-summarized from the original job description, helping you review the key details faster. If you are considering applying, confirm your licensure path and highlight any EPIC or fellowship experience in your materials.
