About the role

The Addictions Counselor interviews and screens individuals for supportive counseling, plans and evaluates individualized treatment plans, and monitors patient progress. They also provide individual and group counseling services and maintain patient records.

Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking a Addictions Counselor.

Candidates MUST have Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) AND a current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

Position Details

  • Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm

Key Elements Of The Role

  • Interviews and screens individuals for supportive counseling;
  • Plans, implements and evaluates an individualized treatment plan for each patient;
  • Monitors patient progress and makes recommendations for further treatment if necessary;
  • Provides individual and group counseling services;
  • Maintains patient records and reports;
  • Collaborates with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services;
  • May conduct education and information sessions, workshops, and training programs for individuals with substance use disorders and members of their community

Minimum Qualifications

• Applicants must either have a current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC),

  • OR
  • Possession of the requirements necessary to be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) with one year of experience or satisfactory completion of a training program in the treatment of substance use disorders.
  • All applicants must uphold the OASAS Scope of Practice and the Canon of Ethical Principals.
