About the role

Responsible for coordinating patient care, performing admissions assessments, and administering medications in a detox/substance abuse setting. The role involves educating patients and families while managing medical logs and responding to on-site emergencies.

Position function/Overview

This position is responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and their families about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. Perform nursing assessments at the time of patient admission. Assists the admissions staff in assigning the patient to a room and obtaining appropriate signatures and consents to admit the patient.

Primary duties/Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission, values and vision of the organization.
  • Provide excellent customer service for patients and patients; practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Develop and run relevant health education groups (HIV Education, MAT Education, etc).
  • Admissions/Intakes
  • Provide patient assessment and communicate any alerts, Qs, or flags for concerns based on reported history and/or current presentation.
  • Obtain physician's orders
  • Reviews, explains and obtains patient signature on all admissions paperwork
  • Obtains the patient’s vital signs and medical history.
  • Administer medication as prescribed by facility medical providers.
  • Assist Director of Nursing with supervision of licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and certified nurse assistants (CNAs).
  • Respond to any medical emergency on property, provide assistance to other floor nurses, or direct care staff, delegate communication and coordination of emergency events.
  • Complete COWs and CIWAs as ordered by the medical provider.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Monitor email communications and respond appropriately as it pertains to the nursing department.
  • Maintain assigned medication cart, ensuring it is properly stocked- no expired medications- valid emergency response medications are available (narcan,epipen, etc).
  • Update pharmacy medication log to ensure medications ordered throughout the day are logged accurately.
  • Follow up on any patients admitted to the hospital, completing nurse to nurse reports and obtain any medical records for review.
  • Complete daily medical equipment logs to ensure compliance (oxygen tank, AED, Glucometer, Fridge Temp, etc.)
  • Complete nursing notes in accordance with company policy and procedure, meeting documentation timelines.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:

Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing or related field

Current RN license – Florida.

One (1) year experience with chemical dependency, addiction, psychiatric detox, medical/surgical nursing and/or dual diagnosis substance programs.

Strong understanding of local, state and federal laws and guidelines.

Working knowledge of Joint Commission and CARF standards; preferred.

Familiarity with CIWA and COWS.

Relevant computer software and hardware applications proficiency – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Electronic Medical Records, Billing Systems and/or other scheduling applications; KIPU preferred.

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of pain.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
