  • Shift: NightSummit Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Inpatient Care Team. Position is available at our Edmond hospital. This is a full-time, night position working three 12-hour shifts per week. Summit Medical Center has established an outstanding reputation for quality services. Position Summary

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in medical and/or surgical units in accordance with established procedures. The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties beyond their normal duties as staffing and patient needs change.

Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions, and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all medical records or documents as indicated by policy. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, as well as inter-departmental objectives. Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties. Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment. Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration.) Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and visitors in accordance with hospital standards. Consistently completes required number of charts audits each month. Performs other nursing duties as assigned or requested. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur. Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel. Attends meetings as required. Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business. Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business. Promotes a culture of safety by identifying and reporting patient safety events and near misses and participating in activities that improve the quality and safety of patient care. Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Oklahoma. Sufficient previous clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing. CPR certification. Current BLS certification; ACLS required within one year of employment. ICU and/or ER experience. Special Skills and Knowledge: Nursing care of the postoperative patient. Operation of vital signs monitors. Assessment Skills. IV Therapy. Principles of Standard Precaution. Performs yearly glucometer competency. Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes. Physical/Mental Requirements for Position: Ability to read and write (legibly.) Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively. Ability to understand and resolve simple to complex problems. Ability to understand simple to complex instructions. Ability to constantly walk, stand, and/or lift. Ability to frequently utilize full range of motion, including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending, and twisting. Ability to frequently lift, pull, push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patient. Ability to see and hear and distinguish color. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Ability to function independently without constant supervision. Bloodborne Pathogen Classification: Category 1-Occupational exposure

Requirements

Requires an Associate degree and current Registered Nurse licensure in Oklahoma, along with CPR and BLS certifications. Previous clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing is required, with ICU or ER experience preferred.
