About the role

The Session Physician provides vasectomies under local anesthesia at designated health centers. Responsibilities also include clinical consultation for advance practice physicians and participation in quality management and chart audit procedures.

Position Summary

Session

physician would provide vasectomies in our Schenectady and/or Newburgh health centers.

Essential job duties and responsibilities

Direct Clinical Care (90%)

• Provides vasectomies under local anesthesia.

Clinical Consultation and Training (5%)

• Provides clinical consultation to advance practice physicians.

Administrative (5%)

Participates in Center chart audit procedures and reviews laboratory and diagnostic reports as appropriate.

Reports to the Regional Medical Director on all medical complications and other matters as needed.

Participates in PPGNY’s quality management activities, including Debriefings and Root Cause Analyses, as required.

Ensures compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines.

Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.

Required qualifications

Education Related Capability Requirements

  • Requires successful completion of coursework culminating in certification either as Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and active status for certification by the American Board of Urology or the American Board of Family Medicine.
  • Must be licensed to practice in New York State.

Experience Related Capability Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with vasectomy provision.
  • Requires basic computer/EMR proficiency.

Licensures/Certifications

  • Current NYS Physician License and Registration.
  • Current BLS certification.

Typical physical demands

Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer.

Frequent standing, walking, bending. Must be able to walk up and down stairs.

Requires lifting or moving of patients/supplies/equipment.

Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials.

Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and medical equipment and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.

Typical working conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. May require travel to other health centers, at times in inclement weather. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week.

Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
