Description Provides professional nursing care for patients on assigned nursing units, in accordance with established statutes, standards and practices.
Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.
Utilizes all resources in the initial assessment of patient needs, including biophysical, psychosocial, cultural, environmental, discharge planning, self-care, and education.
Performs a reassessment each shift, upon transfer or discharge, and more frequently as necessary.
Practices universal precautions, infection control, and isolation procedures.
Maintains accurate and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
Participates in discharge planning; upon discharge ensures that a written teaching/discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients, including disease process, complications, medications, diet, physical activity, and self-care needs.
Demonstrates an understanding of the role of all health care providers to appropriately meet the needs of the patient.
Demonstrates the ability to make effective nursing judgements in routine and emergency situations.

Requirements
Education and Experience: Licensed and current registration in the state of Illinois. Current CPR certification. Clinical experience preferred. Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to initiate a nursing plan of care and identify appropriate nursing interventions and evaluations. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Excellent working knowledge of the Nursing Process and strong nursing practice skills, including physical assessment. Demonstrated proficiency in clinical and technical skills specific to the assigned department Physical Requirements: Work is of medium to heavy demand. Routine lifting requirements of a minimum of more than 50 pounds. Stands and walks for most of the shift. Lifting, pushing, pulling, sitting, bending, and reaching required. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Works inside.
