The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering patient care, including rooming patients, documenting vitals, and assisting providers with exams and minor procedures. They also manage specimen collection, administer medications, and handle patient follow-ups and referrals.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program and hold a certification from a recognized body such as the NHA or AAMA. Previous clinical experience in a medical office is preferred.
Assist physicians during patient exams and procedures Room patients, record patient histories, vital signs, and document in the electronic health record (EHR) Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per scope of licensure Educate patients on health, medications, and follow-up care Coordinate referrals and patient care follow-ups Ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment
Valid and current certification in the state of Iowa for Medical Assisting Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or Associate’s Degree) required. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required: National Healthcare Association American Association of Medical Assistants National Center for Competency Testing National Certified Medical Assistant National Association of Health Professionals American Registry of Medical Assistants American Allied Health American Medical Technologists Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred Familiarity with EPIC a plus! For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
