Perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols. Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and obtain blood gases from various sites.

Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician’s order and departmental policy. Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.
Team members in this job have committed to work a minimum 48-hour commitment for a 6-week period.
Essential Functions

Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring various types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Initiates and manages various types of airways and associated equipment.
Obtains blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results.
Documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.
Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires an Associate degree from an accredited Respiratory Care Program and a state Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with BLS certification and other unit-specific certifications like NRP, PALS, or ACLS.
