Requires a bachelor's degree or an associate degree/NAACLS accredited program with specific biology and chemistry credits. ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician is required within 12 to 18 months of hire.
Join Our Team at UPMC as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist! UPMC is seeking a dedicated Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This full-time position is perfect for someone passionate about contributing to life-changing medicine in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Shift: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Supports academic mission of department. Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.
Successful completion of bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry. One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required.
