- Casual Registered Nurse - Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (UPMC Presbyterian/7F) UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Casual Registered Nurse to support the 7F Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

- Position Overview A 10-bed unit, primarily caring for patients admitted for diagnostic confirmation of seizure disorders.
- Patient Monitoring: Patients are admitted for continuous monitoring, equipped with video and EEG (electroencephalogram) equipment to capture brain activity and any seizures that occur.
- Nurses also manage patients post-placement of subdural grids and SEEGs.
- Seizure Observation: The primary goal is to induce seizures in a controlled environment, allowing doctors to observe the seizures as they happen, which helps in diagnosing the type and focus of the epilepsy.
- Multidisciplinary Team: The EMU typically includes neurologists, epileptologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, neurodiagnostic technicians, and other healthcare professionals who collaborate on patient care.
- Based on the monitoring results, personalized treatment plans are implemented, which may include medication adjustments, lifestyle changes, or surgical options.
- Schedule & Casual Requirements RNs work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to support 24/7 patient care.
- Candidates will be placed into one of the following casual titles based on experience and availability: Professional Staff Nurse – Limited Casual: 30 shifts per calendar year Professional Staff Nurse – Casual: Minimum of 36 hours in three pay periods, one holiday per year, and 24 off-shift/weekend/standby hours per quarter Title and pay are determined by education, experience, and hours commitment with a starting rate of $37.30 per hour.

Minimum 1 year experience. BSN preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of age-specific care, growth and development, and ability to assess and meet patient needs per department policies Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; ability to apply and lead the nursing process Effective communicator able to build positive working relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment Physical ability to meet job demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and positioning patients Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Current RN license in the state of practice or compact state BLS/CPR required within 30 days (AHA-compliant); ACLS within one year of hire UPMC-approved national certification preferred Act 34 clearance required
