Join our team and help launch the first state psychiatric hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth, where innovative caregivers will make a lasting impact on behavioral health in Texas.

The Texas Behavioral Health Center is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center.

When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents.

As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment.

The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery.

The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines.

JOB SUMMARY The Clinical Staff Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients in a psychiatric hospital setting, ensuring the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications for mental health conditions.

This role involves reviewing and verifying medication orders, monitoring patient responses to psychotropic therapies, and collaborating closely with psychiatrists, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize treatment outcomes.

The pharmacist also educates staff and patients on medication use, manages potential drug interactions and side effects, and ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

A strong understanding of psychiatric pharmacotherapy, attention to detail, and commitment to patient-centered care are essential for success in this role.

Shift: Day, Weekend Rotation

Experience and education

Required Education Bachelor's Degree - Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree Experience 1 year of pharmacy experience English (speaking, reading, writing) Licenses and Certifications Eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required upon hire Texas license with TSBP within 30 Days (ACPE-IV) STERILE COMPOUNDING (IV) CERT Sterile compounding (IV) certification accredited by ACPE upon hire (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification with course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) upon hire ADV CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) will be required for inpatient positions within 180 Days Preferred Experience 1 year of pharmacist experience

  • JOB DUTIES Performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Performs all computer order entry in an accurate, thorough and timely manner.
  • Reviews/updates medication profiles (therapies, allergies, height, weight, etc.) and is cognizant of patient charges.
  • Reviews medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, duplications, interactions, overall effectiveness and safety.
  • Seeks clarification if necessary and documents interventions (i.e., ADR).
  • Consistently works (multi-tasks) and problem solves independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Takes charge when necessary and is looked to for direction.
  • Makes the right decisions and uses good judgement.
  • Is cross trained and multifunctional maintaining competency in multiple areas.
  • Enforces the formulary system and follows departmental policy and procedure when acquisition of non-formulary product is judged necessary.
  • Participates in cost effective use and selection of pharmaceuticals.
  • Communicates drug information (verbally and in writing) to physicians, nurses, etc. in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Assists in patient/family education and counseling regarding drug therapy and side effects.
  • Also, effectively documents clinical activities, demonstrating cost savings and concisely conveying key information required for follow-up by fellow pharmacists.
  • Strives to improve patient satisfaction, as measured by Press Ganey scores.
  • Manages technicians and all other supportive personnel.
  • Delegates appropriate/reasonable tasks and validates accuracy of medications intended for distribution from the IV lab, central pharmacy or decentralized automated dispensing machines.
  • Audits and signs out all controlled substances in accordance with state/federal guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Investigates and corrects discrepancies and unusual usage patterns/trends.
  • Actively enhances personal growth and development by participating in educational programs, in-services and meetings.
  • Actively participates in new employee orientation and training.
  • Willingly takes on additional projects as needs develop.
