About the role

Provide essential assistance to healthcare professionals by handling sterilization and instrument preparation for surgical teams. Support diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to ensure smooth clinical operations in hospitals and clinics.

The OR Processing Liaison (ORL) serves as a dedicated on-site clinical and operational partner to the Operating Room (OR) and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) teams. This role bridges clinical practice, device support, and reprocessing workflows to ensure safe, efficient surgical services and optimal asset utilization.

The Specialist works directly with surgeons, nurses, technologists, SPD personnel, and leadership to support endoscopic and surgical equipment, coordinate instrument reprocessing workflows, improve turnaround times, reinforce regulatory compliance, and enhance overall procedural efficiency.

This role is highly visible and embedded within daily operations, acting as a trusted liaison between clinical teams, sterile processing, and vendor support functions What You’ll Do Provide on-site support for surgical procedures, including: Equipment setup, troubleshooting, calibration, and functional checks Point-of-use guidance for care, handling, and transport of instruments and scopes Serve as a day-to-day clinical resource for physicians, nurses, and technologists regarding device use, workflow optimization, and best practices Assist OR and Endoscopy teams with room readiness, case flow, and equipment availability to minimize delays and cancellations Act as the primary liaison between OR and SPD to ensure seamless instrument and scope reprocessing workflows Help coordinate instrument and endoscope inventories, tray accuracy, and case-cart readiness Identify and escalate issues related to missing instruments, damaged equipment, or reprocessing bottlenecks Why Join UVA Health?

Minimum Requirements Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience required as an Endoscopy Technician, Sterile Processing Technician, or Surgical Technologist.
  • Certification (preferred): CRCST / CSPDT CER Physical & Work Environment Requirements Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 25-50lbs. Working in environment with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $19.88 - $30.81 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience, with BLS certification being mandatory. Experience as a CNA, EMT, PCT, or CMA is highly preferred.
