Responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services in cardiology, focusing on evidence-based pharmacotherapy and medication management protocols. Serves as a medication expert for the Heart and Vascular Unit and mentors pharmacy students and residents.
Requires a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of a PGY-1 residency or two years of clinical experience. A current Maryland State License is required, while PGY-2 residency or board certification in cardiology is preferred.
Responsible for carrying out Clinical Pharmacy services with primary practice in the area of Cardiology. Promotes evidence-based pharmacotherapy and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of medication management protocols and drug therapy policies. Serves as a Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy resource for the health system.

1. Conducts departmental activities to meet the goals, objectives and policies of the pharmacy department.
2. Participates in improvements in interdepartmental policies and procedures which support the Pharmacy Department and Hospital's strategic goals. Maintains accurate records as required by departmental policies/procedures and federal/state board regulations.
3. Completes all core competencies and documents clinical activities accurately per policies and procedures. Supports the Investigational Drug Service in daily operations.
4. Serves as the medication expert on the Heart and Vascular Unit and provides time-sensitive, accurate information for other healthcare providers in acute scenarios.
5. Provides pharmaceutical care, dosing, and guideline recommendations to impact patient care and reduce readmissions. Offers guidance for cardiac drug selection and pharmacotherapy regimens consistent with evidence-based guidelines.
6. Completes pharmacotherapy drug class reviews, formulary changes, assimilation of evidence-based protocols/order sets, medication safety activities, and targeted medication expense reductions.
7. Assists in transition of care services, including medication reconciliation and discharge education, for high-risk cardiac patients or those with medication-related problems.
8. Serves as pharmacy representative on multidisciplinary cardiology committees and develops cardiology-specific educational programs, protocols, standard operating procedures, and order sets.
9. Educates other healthcare providers, through formal and informal in-services, on approved treatment guidelines and criteria to support appropriate, cost-effective use of medications in the Heart and Vascular Unit.
10. Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for Pharmacy School Students, Pharmacy Residents, and pharmacists to foster clinical excellence, professional growth, and evidence-based practice.
· Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
· Completion of PGY-1 residency or 2 years of demonstrated clinical experience required.
· Completion of PGY-2 residency or board certification in cardiology preferred.
· Current Maryland State License.
