Provide individual, family, and group counseling and skill-building services for clients with mental health and substance use disorders. Utilize both Western clinical models and traditional healing practices to support client recovery.
Requires a degree in Addictions Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work combined with direct clinical experience in co-occurring treatment. Must hold a relevant professional license or behavioral health certification and be familiar with the Bristol Bay region's culture.
Primary responsibility is to provide individual, family and group counseling, education and skill building services for clients with mental health and substance use disorders using both Western models and traditional healing practices.
1. A weighted combination of education, training and experience working with individuals with Co-occurring Disorders is required for Counselor Positions with a pay Range from MM through PP:
MA/MS in Addictions Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field
BA/BS Addictions Counseling, Psychology or Social Work, or closely related field
4 years of direct Clinical experience in a co-occurring treatment program
2 years of direct Clinical experience in a co-occurring treatment program
Licensure as LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LMHC, BHA-III or BHA-P
Certification as Behavioral Health Counselor: Advanced or II
Certification as Behavioral Health Counselor: Tech or I
2. Must possess knowledge of Substance Use and mental health Disorders in the Bristol Bay Area and be familiar with the culture and lifestyle of the peoples of the region.
3. Must possess ability to learn and apply knowledge and skills in the American Society of Addictions Medicine (ASAM) for assessment, treatment planning and discharge.
4. Must possess ability to learn and apply knowledge of best practices in counseling techniques for clients with substance use disorders.
5. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
6. Must adhere to the National Association for Addictions Professionals also known as the National Association for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) Code of Ethics and maintain a personal moral code to serve as a role model for clients and the region as a whole.
7. Must possess skills to work well with divers cultures; Yupik speaker is desired.
Work is performed in a normal office setting. Job requires operation of computer, light lifting, and ability to hear and present oral and written communications. Must be able to see, hear, speak, walk, sit, bend, kneel, and lift and carry up to 20 pounds with or without accommodation. May be required to travel to villages in small, unpressurized aircraft.
