Franciscan Healthcare is seeking a skilled and motivated Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical services team. In this vital role, you’ll be at the heart of the operating room supporting surgeons, nurses, and patients by ensuring procedures run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. Surgical technologists are essential partners in delivering exceptional surgical care, making a meaningful impact every day on patient outcomes.
Hours
- Minimum 36 hours/week,
- Monday-Friday 5:30am start, on-call and holiday rotation, including nights and weekends.
Essential job duties and responsibilities
- Under the Registered Nurse’s supervision, assists with activities required during surgical procedures.
- Wears appropriate surgical attire and appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Selects and prepares necessary supplies and equipment.
- Checks all equipment for working order and reports or corrects unsafe conditions.
- Properly cleans the operating room before surgical procedures.
- Assists circulating nurse in setting up room with instruments and supplies for surgical cases.
- Verifies exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging. Opens supplies aseptically.
- Demonstrates correct body mechanics in assisting with patient transportation, positioning and restraining to avoid injury to patient and/or self.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician program with a current licensure as a Surgical Technologist in the State of Nebraska, preferred
- Basic Life Support or ability to obtain within probationary period
- Experience operating equipment in OR and PACU with minimal assistance preferred
- Other Competencies
- Interpersonal skills requiring courtesy and tact are necessary to communicate effectively
- Requires full range of body motion with frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching
- Ability to properly lift position and transport patients (with assistance as defined)
- Ability to change from one duty to another frequently
- Analytical skills to organize and prioritize workload to meet patient needs
- Ability to stabilize unsteady patient when ambulating
- Ability to record information accurately and follow instructions exactly
