About the role

The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist in dispensing medications and medical supplies, maintaining patient records, and managing inventory. The role also involves preparing IV admixtures and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

General Statement of Job Under a Certified Pharmacist direct supervision, this position assists the Pharmacist with preparing medication and medical supply orders for delivery to patients and performs clerical tasks within the pharmacy.

The employee is responsible for maintaining accurate patient information on patient profiles, processing billing, maintaining inventory and maintaining complete files.

This position requires patient and public interaction and the ability to work well with the public and health care professionals.

Essential Functions Assists thePharmacist in accurately dispensing medications and medical supplies to thehospital’s patients.

Fills medicationorders, medication cart drawers, and floor stock requests accurately andefficiently for verification by the Pharmacist.

Replenishesmedications in emergency boxes and carts, and floor stock areas accurately asneeded.

Ensures the emergency boxes and carts are free of expired medicationsand rotates stock on a regular basis.

Assists withworkflow telephone calls and directs messages accordingly.

Prepares IV(intravenous) admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accuratelyusing appropriate techniques.

Cleans and maintains the IV hood and Compounding areas, including monitoring pressures andtemperatures as required, on a daily basis.

Maintains accurate electronicrecords of required information per USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines.

Reports anyvariances and/or issues to the Director of Pharmacy immediately.

Monitors compounding, and testing documentation for compliance with USP 797 and 800guidelines.

Processes and fills the Medication Dispensing Machines on a routine basis.

Monitors inventory of stock and assists Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Buyer with inventory management initiatives including par levels for all medications.

Delivers medications and supplies to the patient care and ancillary areas accurately perestablished schedule.

Makes statdeliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.

Conducts and documents unit inspection audits of assigned areas monthly.

Assists in monitoring temperature logs of the medicationrefrigerators, freezers, and warmers for appropriate range.

When out of range the unit is adjusted andthe Pharmacist is notified immediately to evaluate the integrity of the drug supplyof that unit.

PerformsMedication Reconciliation for patients admitted to the hospital and properlydocuments any changes to the patient’s medications in the system.

Assists inmaintaining pharmacy supply and inventory system; including ordering, receiving,unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.

Assists in rotatingstock to ensure use before expiration date.

Assists in identifying and replacingoutdated and unusable medications.

Repackages bulkmedications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per establishedprocedures using appropriate techniques for verification by the Pharmacist.

Generatesreports, pick lists, fill batches, and labels accurately, as required.

Picks up orders,requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when ondelivery rounds.

Enters chargesand credits for patient medications accurately.

Maintains logs,records and other required documentation accurately.

Files documentation in appropriate locations.

Responds to concernsand inquiries by patients, doctors and hospital personnel; providing responsescommensurate within the authority of the Pharmacy Technician position.

Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform otheremergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats ordisasters, man-made or natural.

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is an independent special taxing district that has served as a healthcare safety net for more than 36 years to fill in gaps in access to healthcare services.

This unique healthcare system covers the entire county and provides a wide range of services such as nine community health centers (Federally Qualified Health Centers) which serve everyone regardless of ability to pay; school health teams in 172 public schools; a lifesaving Trauma Hawk aeromedical helicopter program; a rural, public teaching hospital, Lakeside Medical Center; an award-winning skilled nursing center; a ground ambulance program for Health Care District patients needing a higher level of care and the county’s Trauma Agency, which ensures quality outcomes within the county’s trauma system and leads initiatives to prevent traumatic injury.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a current Florida Pharmacy Technician license. Six months of experience is preferred, and knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations is necessary.
