The RCP-R provides basic and advanced respiratory care services to patients across all age groups in various hospital settings. Responsibilities include performing patient assessments, developing care plans, and evaluating their effectiveness with minimal supervision.
Candidates must be licensed by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board and registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Current AHA BLS certification and previous clinical experience are also required.
The Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP-R) is expected to interact with patients and their families in a caring, compassionate, considerate manner and provide care with the highest regards for the patient's mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. The RCP-R is responsible for providing basic and advanced Respiratory Care services to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The RCP-R performs patient assessments, develops Respiratory Care Plans, and then implements and evaluates the effectiveness of the Respiratory Care Plan. He/she is required to deliver respiratory care services to patients in all areas of the hospital including critical care units, telemetry, medical and surgical floors, emergent care areas, post-anesthesia care units, infant nurseries, labor and delivery, pediatrics, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and the home care environment. The RCP-R is expected to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined with only minimal supervision and must make independent decisions.
