Reporting to the Director, Clinical Services, the Genetics Program Assistant performs a wide range of administrative and office support activities necessary to assist the genetic counseling team in providing hereditary cancer risk assessment to patients and their families. Responsibilities include: maintaining genetic counselor and hereditary cancer clinic schedules, assisting with genetic case preparation and follow-up (preparing intake paperwork, inputting family history information into database, assisting with insurance preauthorization paperwork, tracking test results etc.) and assisting with other projects/job related duties with guidance from the genetic counseling team. Interacts with patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies and testing laboratories.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: 1) Maintains genetic counselor and hereditary cancer clinic schedules on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. 2) Answers phone calls from patients and healthcare providers with questions regarding hereditary cancer risk assessment. 3) Assists with patient case preparation: ·Appointment reminder phone calls · Facilitates collection of outside medical records · Mails family history packets · Prepares intake paperwork/patient chart · Inputs family history information into pedigree software · Prints clinic related paperwork and patient handouts 4) Assists with genetic counseling tasks that require follow-up: · Coordinates insurance pre-authorization paperwork · Prepares letters of medical necessity with guidance from genetic counselors · Tracks genetic test results · Assists with patient referrals · Mails follow-up letters, pedigree and results to patient/provider 5) Maintains patient databases. 6) Performs other job related duties and side projects as requested by genetic counseling team.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: · Strong interpersonal communication via phone and written client correspondence · Excellent customer service skills · Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team · Ability to multitask · Reliability · Familiarity and proficiency with the use of Microsoft Windows based systems, especially Word and Excel Experience: · 1+ years of related administrative work experience preferred · Interest in genetics is preferred Pay Range: $23.00 - $31.00 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
