Major
Responsibilities:
Performs all aspects of assisted reproductive procedures including: sperm wash, media preparation, egg insemination/fertilization, egg clean-up/score of fertilization, embryo culture, grading, assisted hatching, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), sperm identification from epididymal aspirated or testicular biopsy, embryo transfer, embryo freeze, embryo thaw, and embryo biopsy. Orders, receives, inspects and stores culture media. Performs all initial quality control testing following outlined procedures before release of media, for use in embryology procedures. Performs quality control testing of media with mouse embryo assay and sperm survival test. Performs sperm preparation and freezing. Performs identification and isolation of human oocytes from follicular fluid at the time of aspiration. Prepares reagents for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), assuring proper pH of each reagent using pH meter. Maintains proper operation of permanent specialized equipment such as the incubator, pH meter, osmometer, microscopes, centrifuge, hoods, ICSI equipment, freezing equipment and monitoring systems. Presents statistics on a monthly basis for Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART) meetings. Performs all quality control procedures in the embryology laboratory and adheres to established Service Standards. Prepares and forwards the Embryology Laboratory Charges Report to the billing specialists at the end of each IVF procedure. Maintains all inventories of cryopreserved embryos by maintaining Cryopreserved Embryo Logs, AMG Cryopreserved Embryo Inventory Cards and Cryopreserved Embryo Billing Inventory Reports. Maintains and updates all patient files and paperwork concerning IVF procedures. Counsels patients, obtain patient consent to different procedures and answer their questions regarding the laboratory aspects of IVF care. Enters patient and cycle information into appropriate database and electronically transmits data to Society for Advanced Reproductive Technology (SART) in a timely manner. Enters data into the infertility data system (IDS) and maintains up to date electronic records of all aspects of the IDS.
